An armed mob of thousands was marching towards Burnt Forest

There are hundreds if not thousands of kikuyus taking refuge in Burnt Forest. Who are these armed thugs. is it the Karamajong? Is it one of the other tribes? This is news I have just recieved in the last few minutes!! NOT OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED

  1. There was a brief mention of armed people heading into the forest on the Nation website a few hours ago, but I haven’t heard anything since.

  2. Hello,

I noticed that in the previous post from Grace, she says that these people might be in Eldoret to aid in the fight against Kibaki. “A contingent of Karamojong guerrilla fighters are reported to have arrived in Eldoret town to join the struggle against Kibaki dictatorship.” I think this is a typo because of the discussion I see here which suggests that these people may be Kikuyu. Could you please verify this?

Are the fighters there to aid Kibaki or are they Odinga supporters?

We have to be very clear about this since it is a matter of life and death. We do not need people drawing assumptions based on erroneous information, especially when ethnic tensions are so high.

    Peace,
    Annah

  3. There were some media reports earlier in Kenya about an armed group matching towards burnt forest. The Karamajong issue is largely unconfirmed and should be taken with a grain of salt till we hear otherwise. i

  4. I have never been one to read blogs…madoubles take care of any time on the net beyond email and a quick perusal of the dailies. However, with family in harms way in Eldoret with no way out I am at my comp constantly trying to think of a way out of this situation. My humble take on this is that Kibaki is not likely to step down…it simply is not done in Africa. What would be so horrible about Honourable Raila Odinga joining him and Honourable Kalonzo Musyoka in queling the violence- then dealing with his shenanigans through parliament? A vote of no confidence would put paid to his ambitions for forced rule and ODM has the numbers. This ‘I will not nego because he is in office illegally…..’ has gotten old and is costing lives, Bwana Odinga. You do not want to govern a country which is gutted and dead when you have the power to stop this thing in its tracks. Kibaki may have started the conflagration….ODINGA can stop it, and in so doing pick up a million more votes from the grateful peasant farmers of the great Rift. I am not a Luo…but some of my best friends and mentors are. I know statesmanship when I see it….so do millions of Kenyans. Will we see it in you , sir?

If it were that easy it would have happened. Kenyans have made many concessions to accomodate “peace and security”. The person looting and killing ordinary people is not Raila. If anything Kibaki has single-handedly perpetrated the whole scenario thanks to a blatant rape of our hard-earned democracy. The strides that have been made since 1990 were lost in a day with the “coup de tat” and the consequent media ban. Moi never banned the media a day in his life even when he heavily censured “seditious” articles.

It makes more sense to have Kibaki step down than to accomodate him. He has proven that he cannot be trusted with our lives. We don’t want to give him any more chances to add dessert on our injuries. We want kibaki out. KIBAKI ATOKE!!

  6. The Republic of Kenya is more important than the political class of Kenya and its two sided division of government and Opposition. Let us embrace the prayer of our National Anthem now more than ever before. I agree that Kibaki and his advisors underestimated the historical significance of the 2007 elections: ie that all major tribes of Kenya except those for PNU had decided that its high time the presidency goes to Western Kenya and more likely to the Luo Community. Kibaki should find ways of engaging Mr Odinga in dialogue and at the same time Mr Odinga should thoroughly consult with his new brigade of MPs on what kind of position should ODM take in such talks. The dialogue should not be between Odinga and Kibaki but between ODM and PNU. Lets not simplify this issue to two personalities that obviously dont get along well. This iwll only postpone a solution to the political crisis. In the meantime, let the diehard and wounded supporters of ODM in Rift Valley exercise restraint and respect the rule of law as well as the counsel given them by the ODM Pentagon. A very unfortunate state of affairs in Kenya indeed, it should never happened in the first place though…

  7. The solution at this point to this crisis in Kenya is for Kibaki to step down, initiate the dialogue between the parties, sack out the previous Electoral Commission Chairman, ammend election laws, appoint a new chairman, hold re-election. When Raila wins he will have to hold Kibaki and the previous Electoral Commission Chairman resposible for mass killings.
